2018 Soreike! Anpanman Film Casts Anne Watanabe, UN-JASH

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Film centering on new character Kurun opens on June 30

The official website for Soreike! Anpanman Kagayake! Kurun to Inochi no Hoshi (Let's go! Anpanman: Shine! Kurun and the Star of Life), the Anpanman franchise's 30th anime film, revealed on Thursday that actress and model Anne Watanabe (also known as Anne) and comedy duo UN-JASH will guest star in the film. Watanabe will play the protagonist Kurun. UN-JASH members Ken Watanabe and Kazuya Kojima will play Baikin-man's mecha Dadandan and Gorongoro, respectively.

The anime will open in Japan on June 30.

The film's story begins in Anpanman World, where everybody is bustling around, getting ready for the annual Star Festival. On that day, an egg emerges from Baikinman's garbage box, and when it hatches, a mysterious boy named Kurun emerges from within. Though Kurun does not know where he came from, he spends his days having fun with everybody. But one day, black stars begin raining down. Anpanman thinks that something suspicious might be occurring at the Star of Life, and he heads there.

The anime's main theme song, "Anpanman no March," will serve as a motif for the film. The film will again feature sing-and-dance-along songs including "Hoshi ni Inoru" and "Sansan Taisō."

The Soreike! Anpanman television anime series began in 1988, and new Anpanman films have opened each summer since 1989. The 2014 film Soreike! Anpanman: Ringo Bōya to Minna no Negai (Let's Go! Anpanman: The Apple Boy and Everyone's Wishes) was the first film since Anpanman creator Takashi Yanase's passing.

The 29th film in the franchise, Soreike! Anpanman Buruburu no Takarasagashi Daibōken! (Let's go! Anpanman: Buruburu's Big Treasure Hunt Adventure!), opened in Japan on July 1, 2017.
