Anime based on smartphone game premieres on January 10 in Japan

Sentai Filmworks announced on Monday that it has licensed the anime Grimms Notes the Animation in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Latin America, Central America, Spain, Portugal, Scandinavia, and the Netherlands. The company plans to simulcast the series this winter and later release it on home video.

The anime is based on Square Enix's Grimms Notes smartphone game, which features characters from classic fairy tales and stories such as Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin and the Magic Lamp, and Cinderella. The game takes place in a world created by a beings known as "Story Tellers." At birth, all inhabitants of this world are bestowed with a "book of fate" where all their lives are written in advance. However, rogue Story Tellers known as Chaos Tellers are writing bad events into people's books without them knowing. It is up to the holders of blank books of fate to seek out the Chaos Tellers and restore the world.

The anime will premiere in Japan on TBS on January 10 late at night at 1:58 a.m. (effectively January 11). The anime will also air on BS-TBS late at night on January 12 (effectively January 13). Square Enix has indicated that the anime will not be composed of five-minute episodes.

Seiki Sugawara (RIN-NE, D-Frag!) is directing the anime at Brains Base. Hiroshi Yamaguchi is in charge of the series scripts, and Kentarou Matsumoto is designing the characters. Fumiyuki Go is directing the sound, and Mirai Kodai Gakudan is composing the music.

Ayana Taketatsu will perform the opening theme song "Innocent Notes," and idol unit i☆Ris will perform the ending theme song "Endless Notes." Miyu Kubota, who also voices the main character Shane, is a member of i☆Ris.

Korean game publisher Flero Games released the game in South Korea, the United States, Canada, and 27 European countries including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany on March 2.
