Adult Swim's Toonami to Run Gundam: The Origin Starting on July 6

2nd part of Attack on Titan Season 3 premieres on Saturday

The official Facebook account for Adult Swim's Toonami block announced on Friday that the block will start running the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin anime on July 6 in the United States.

The anime project adapts Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's manga of the same name, which in turn is inspired by the first Mobile Suit Gundam anime's story. Yasuhiko designed the characters in the first Gundam anime, and he served as the chief director and storyboarder for the Gundam: The Origin anime. Yasuhiko revealed last year that Gundam: The Origin is his last anime.

The six-volume anime originally debuted in Japanese theaters from 2015 to 2018. The story centers around the childhood and early adulthood of Char Aznable, the skilled Zeon ace pilot known as The Red Comet, who serves as antagonist and foil to original series protagonist Amuro Ray.

A 13-episode television series recompilation of the anime began airing on the public television station NHK-General in Japan on April 29 under the title Kidō Senshi Gundam: The Origin Zenya - Akai Suisei (Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin - Eve of the Red Comet).

Toonami will premiere the second part of the Attack on Titan Season 3 television anime on May 25. It will then premiere Lupin the Third: Part 5 on June 15.
