Discotek to Release Space Adventure Cobra Film on UHD 4K Blu-ray Disc
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Discotek Media announced at its panel at Otakon on Sunday that it will release Space Adventure Cobra - The Movie on Ultra-High Definition (UHD) 4K Blu-ray Disc in North America on October 29.
Discotek stated the release will be the first UHD 4K Blu-ray Disc release for an anime in North America.
MediaOCD is producing the disc from a newly restored 4K master from TMS Entertainment. The release will use "HDR10 technology to offer enhanced colors on compatible equipment."
The late Osamu Dezaki directed the 1982 film with a screenplay by Cobra co-creator Buichi Terasawa. Discotek describes the story:
The film follows Cobra, an infamous space outlaw (and all around wise-cracking nice guy) whose left arm turns into a lethally powerful psycho-gun. As he pursues the beautiful bounty hunter Jane Flowers, he is found out and pursued by his enemy, the evil Crystal Bowie.
Discotek Media released the film on DVD in 2012 and on Blu-ray Disc in 2015. Midnight Pulp most recently began streaming the film last month.
