Makoto Yukimura Starts Drawing Final Arc of Vinland Saga Manga

Manga creator states final arc will take "several years"

Manga creator Makoto Yukimura posted on Twitter on Sunday that he has started drawing the fourth and final arc of his Vinland Saga manga. In the Twitter post, he stated that the overall Vinland Saga manga is divided into four parts. The first three parts include the "War" arc, the "Slave" arc, and the "Eastern Expedition" arc. Yukimura added that the final arc will be more than 50 chapters long with more than 1,000 pages, and will take "several years."

Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in English, and the company describes the story:

Thorfinn is son to one of the Vikings' greatest warriors, but when his father is killed in battle by the mercenary leader Askeladd, he swears to have his revenge. Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band in order to challenge him to a duel, and ends up caught in the middle of a war for the crown of England. From the creator of the classic Planetes manga comes this epic, highly-anticipated tale.

Yukimura launched the series in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2005, but Kodansha moved the series to Afternoon later that year. Kodansha published the manga's 22nd volume on June 21. The manga received the Best General Manga award in Kodansha's 36th Annual Manga Awards in 2012. The series won the Grand Prize in the manga division in the Ministry of Cultural Affairs' 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2009.

The manga's television anime adaptation premiered on July 7. The anime streams exclusively on Amazon Prime Video both in Japan and overseas.
