Kumoricon Announces Transition To Digital Convention for 2020

Oregon's Largest Anime Convention Takes A New Direction In The Wake Of The COVID-19 Pandemic

July 21, 2020: Today, Oregon's largest anime and Japanese culture convention, Kumoricon, announces a completely online event called DigiKumo to be held on November 6-8 in response to the postponement of Kumoricon to 2021.

Last week, the board of directors gathered to reach a final decision on the postponement of the convention. “It was an extremely painful call for us to make,” said Brian Mathews, Kumoricon's Board Chair. “But ultimately the people in our community are our first priority. For everyone's health and safety, we believe this is the right thing to do.”

Kumoricon staff will now be focusing on creating a whole new experience that fans can enjoy from the safety of their own homes. “We will miss putting on a convention this year, but we're optimistic about the future and excited to try something different.” said Samantha Rushford, Director of Publicity. By making the decision to focus on a digital convention several months in advance, staff will have much more time to plan and are confident that DigiKumo will reflect the same passion that goes into the Kumoricon event. Attendees can look forward to panels, contests, cosplays, watchalongs, and interacting with guests and each other all through video and chat rooms. Expect more panel and guest announcements as DigiKumo gets closer.
