nice to see Bakuman and Chii's Sweet Home on there. I was super disappointed that Chii's Sweet Home was published in the left to right format. I was sure that America was done doing that with manga, but I guess not. Sad

Do my eyes deceive me, or is that a US manga at the top of the list, even before Naruto? o_o I've never heard of that comic or that author, but to be a US manga that outsells Naruto even on its third volume (meaning it retained readers), then..... congrats. I wonder how they did it.

First off, I'm so glad to see Chi's Sweet Home doing so well in America!! Very Happy Second, Ed Chavez addressed the flipping of Chi's Sweet Home in his interview with Reverse Thieves. I think the idea behind this was that Vertical was trying to make Chi's Sweet Home to appeal to a larger audience than just the manga loving crowd. This is just pure speculation on my part, but I don't think this manga would have done so well had it just remained in the right-to-left as it doen't have any of the aspects which the popular teen oriented manga titles have (ninjas, vampires, or other supernatural elements).

Naruto's on its 13th week lol. I'm surprised that it still managed to stay in second place after all of these months.

And I'm happy about Chi, but I don't like Vertical's approach to it. They're bringing manga back twenty years by publishing it left to right.

Nobody ever complains about Tezuka getting flipped.

Maximum Ride is a well-established YA property, that's how.

It's an adaptation of James Patterson's Maximum Ride novel series. I'd wager there are a lot of people who aren't manga fans, but enjoyed the novels, who are picking this one up. I still need volume 3, but I've enjoyed it so far.

I'm thrilled to see Chi's Sweet Home on the list! Congrats, Vertical! I preordered mine from RightStuf and still haven't received it, but I can't wait to read it. I'm getting a bit antsy. xD I'm happy Chi's is doing so well.

Definitely glad to see the Maximum Ride manga doing so well (is that Iggy on the cover? Yes!), though I still need to pick up the second volume. I'm a fan of the novels and the manga both, so it doing well is awesome - I guess my worries about this adaption being cut short can go away eh?

I do.

Actually, flipping doesn't bother me too much if it's done relatively smoothly, which Verticle does. And I know from experience that it can be nigh-impossible to convince people that it really is easy to read something right-to-left once you get used to it. But yeah -- leave the art (and it is pop art) as it is. It's not 20 years too late to be doing that, but it is about 10.

I'm very pleased to see Chi doing so well! I just picked up book 2 the other day.

As others have pointed out, it was probably a smart decision on Vertical's part to flip the book since it becomes more accessible to non-manga readers. My mom is a Chi fan but certainly doesn't care for anime or manga as a whole.
