Wow, that sounds amazing! The fact that the (awesome) Parallel Works series is included makes it all the better... Oh if only I were a rich heiress with $721 smackers to spare. Sniff! I know that everyone who manages to buy this will absolutely love and treasure it!

The original television series will have both English subtitles and dubbing in the box.

I may have to buy this now... better start saving up.

Great, now if only someone would license it here! Oh wait, it's Aniplex, so the release will be just as expensive but a "bargain" because it's half the Japanese price! Rolling Eyes

I'm still sore at them for not dubbing the movies, and I'm also sore because now I'm sure Aniplex USA is pursuing the license for the TV series as well now that it's OOP no thanks to Bandai, and then people who want the series rescued will be screwed over because they'll do some stupidly expensive DVD/BD release like this and we'll have no option but to save our precious pennies to buy it.

Unless of course Sentai or Funi decides to go for it, which is what I'd LIKE to happen more. I will never pay more than $100 for anime, no matter how much flashy stuff they jazz it up with like fancy boxes.

$721...I'm not slamming the people who will buy this, (I paid $300ish for Garden of Sinners on Bluray), but I am so grateful that the bulk of the anime I buy is well under $200 for a complete series. Bless our North American market.

Wow, sounds like a great deal. I wonder what they mean by 're-filming' the series, though. The series was done digitally, not on cel or mastered on film. Does this mean the key and in-between drawings are being re-scanned and the finishing touches done from there?

With a dub on here, pretty much a given it won't be getting a NA release. 720 bucks is a bit steep for an older anime boxset.

What makes you say that when the Blu-ray set for ROD got released here by Aniplex USA, albeit with the price halved? Not to mention the Durarara and Baccano sets. A dub/subs on the Blu-ray != a US release.

That said, I still wouldn't plunk cash down for this if they even brought it here because Aniplex USA thinks everyone will pay $400+ for anime.

I'd like to hear your reasoning for such a statement.

It's way too expensive, yes, but consider that this is pretty much collector's edition. Aside from having two artbooks (one in hardcover), it has everything previous DVDs had to offer and more on the top. The price is reasonable for Japanese standards, especially taking into account the HD refilming.

I can't believe a company like them has the utter gall to say "we know what anime fans want" when they don't realize some of us don't like paying lots of money for anime. They think that apparently everyone who loves anime will love it enough to buy either overpriced releases with fancy boxes or carbon copies of the Region 2 releases straight from Japan with something extra tacked on. They don't think about the people who casually watch shows and don't care about fancy extras too much or how cool the box looks on their shelves.

Aniplex isn't some nefarious outfit out to hurt anyone's feelings. They're there to make money from their loyal niche. It's as innocent as that. Aniplex will either succeed in the long run or will not.

Oh wait, the Garden of Sinners DVD release was also $150 as was Bakemonogatari. That still justifies the fact that they overprice their releases and don't care for the majority of people who want their anime for less money.

I don't care for "collector's editions", I just want to watch the series...but no, we need animation cels, fancy boxes, commentaries and how this got made and blah blah blah to drive up the cost.
