Fuji TV revealed during a livestream event on Thursday that a television anime adaptation of Shion Miura's The Great Passage (Fune wo Amu or lit. To Compile A Ship) novel will premiere on its Noitamina programming block in October. Fuji TV began streaming an announcement promotional video on Thursday for the series.
The video reveals the show's official website and Twitter account.
Haruko Kumota (Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū original manga creator) is in charge of the original character designs for the series.
Miura's original novel revolves around Mitsuya Majime and Masashi Nishioka. Mitsuya is a serious man who is a poor talker, and Masashi is a sociable man. The novels follow their friendship, determination, and passion as they work together to publish a new dictionary titled "The Great Passage" (Daitokai).
The novel originally shipped in 2011, and it inspired an award-winning live-action film directed by Yuya Ishii that opened in Japan in 2013. The film won the Japan Academy Prize for Picture of the Year in 2013.
