Love Live! Voice Actress Aya Uchida Recovers After Vocal Cord Surgery

posted on by Karen Ressler
Ai Mai Mi actress took two weeks off

Voice actress Aya Uchida announced on her blog on Monday that she took two weeks off around the end of the year to get surgery for a vocal cord nodule. She had it safely removed.

Uchida first noticed the problem last spring, and she suddenly lost her voice at a Love Live! performance at Tokyo Dome. With medicine she was able to continue going to recording sessions, but beginning in the fall the problem had gotten worse to the point where it was interfering with her radio and Niconama programs.

She noted that, aside from affecting her voice, the condition caused her a lot of stress because her voice is central to her work.

After her surgery she was initially unable to speak, so she stayed at home and cooked, cleaned, and read lots of books. For New Year's, she spent time with her family.

Uchida is best known for playing Kotori Minami in Love Live! School idol project. This season, Uchida is voicing mai in Ai Mai Mi: Surgical Friends, Kaban in Kemono Friends, and Marina in Chain Chronicle: The Light of Haecceitas.
