A live-action Chinese adaptation of horror manga creator Junji Ito's manga short stories has been green-lit. The adaptation will premiere this year on the iQIYI Chinese streaming video service.
The drama will adapt the following stories: "Sōichi no Katte na Noroi," "Dassōhei no Iru Ie," "Rōjiura," and "Umeku Haisuikan," as well as Ito's Shibito no Koiwazurai manga. The characters, setting, and scenario will be localized and altered to fit the new Chinese setting.
Viz Media previously published Ito's Uzumaki manga, which inspired a live-action film. Viz Media also published Ito's Gyo manga, which inspired an OVA. ComicsOne published Ito's Tomie, which also inspired live-action films.
Viz Media has also published Ito's Fragments of Horror manga, ComicsOne has also published his Flesh Colored Horror manga, Dark Horse Comics has published his Museum of Terror manga, and Kodansha Comics has published his Junji Ito's Cat Diary: Yon & Mu manga.
